Kew's quest for the zombie fungus

We were delighted to get the opportunity to tell the mind blowing story of how a zombie fungus infects cicadas and sends them on a sex crazed, drug fuelled mating frenzy! Our approach was to accentuate the main themes with striking visuals that take this beyond a simple explanation of the cicadas mating activity and into an animation that is intoxicating in its own right. Taking inspiration from psychedelic imagery, we created a chemically enhanced art direction to immerse the viewer in this larger than life tale.

We also crafted an animation to show how Fungarium Curator Lee Davies used social media in his quest to gain new specimens of the mind-altering zombifying fungus.
